at keeping this thing updated. This poor, neglected blog.
I don't think I recorded ANY of my program here.
But never fear....
BECAUSE I'M GOING BACK AGAIN!
Yes, that is right, I am going down for another spring program! <333
I should probably get a new url. because I won't be merchandise, I will be recreation! HOPEFULLY I'll use this thing this time because I can hardly find ANY blogs/vlogs on the role of recreation. I can't wait to find out what I'll be doing.
Alooooooha
My name is Melissa and I will be moving to Florida for a semester for the Disney World College Program! My role will be merchandise....my location TBA.

So, wow, I totally forgot I had one of these.
All I can say is how much I love this program.
I am so upset it's already the middle of March. Yesterday I applied for an extension. The roles I chose were
1. Attractions
2. Hospitality
3. Current role
I really do love my job right now. Yeah, it's in a hotel and it can get boring. But I love everybody that I work with. My leaders are awesome, I love my coordinators, I love the CPs I work with, and the part/full timers are really awesome as well. I feel like I really fit in there, and it's no longer really awkward. I am finally pretty comfortable at my job, and I kinda wish I can stay there. For hospitality for my extension, I requested to stay at the Polynesian so I could still see my merch friends. If my request is granted of course.
I also applied to be a campus rep at my school. I won't lie, I want that position a lot. Not only do I want it because I get to keep my benefits, I will also be helping Stockton out. Nobody at that school knows ANYTHING and it makes me so mad. To know that I can help clear things out makes me so happy. I really really need to get Stockton updated on what this program is. I have never had so many problems with something in my whole life.
Anyway, it's gorgeous outside, and I am going to hop on a bus to EPCOT to go see more of the Flower and Garden festival. It's absolutely the prettiest thing I have ever seen in my life. It's probably my new favorite thing to do at Disney. I love living down here, I don't want to leave.

Merch Tier 1-3
This far, I have survived tier 1 through three.
Tier 1 I got to train with three other girls, and we basically toured backstage a little, and the resort, and the stores. We didn't get to ring anybody up or really do anything in the stores. It was all mostly backstage. We also sat in on a meeting with one of my leaders and it was pretty fun.
Tier 2 was merchantainment class at Disney University. I think I blogged about this already. It was basically register training.
Tier 3, I actually rang people up! Boutiki was really slow, so I only rang up like 5 people. The first thing I ever sold was a princess charm haha. I think with a couple more customers I will be able to get the hang of it. I'm in Trader Jack's today though, so that will probably trip me up. Today is my tier 4, which is basically me doing things on my own with my trainer somewhere near me. I am kind of scared. I still don't really know any of the stock rooms or anything. I can't even find the fridge to put my lunch haha. I'm excited to get today over with. I also learn how to close today. Eeek, we will see what happens haha.

Merchantainment
Today I had merchantainment at Disney University. I thought it was where we learned how to interact with children and stuff but it was basically register training and powerpoints and elabs. It dragged on for forever. But merchandise has their own theme song which is awesome. The muppets they used were super creepy though. Wednesday I think I'm actually going to be onstage so I'm excited to start going out there! I'm also terrified because the register is so different than what I am used to. The buttons are so tiny and sensitive, I am going to mess everything up. I am pretty good at not letting guests rush me. We will see what happens.

Aloha Day
Yesterday was my Aloha Day, which was my orientation. I can't tell you it was very exciting. We just watched a powerpoint for about 5 hours, and for the other 30 minutes not in the powerpoint we toured the Polynesian and hula danced infront of guests.
Everybody backstage was so nice. We had to find the tiki room and everybody eventually found it. There were 13 people in my group. There were like 2 recreations and 3 quick service. My aloha day trainer Denise was so nice. I loved her. I hope I will see her around. If anyone else is working at the Poly, I hope you get to have her as your leader!
Basically, in the powerpoint, we learned a little of the Polynesian's history, what guests expect from us, and safety in motion. It was all pretty boring. (The safety in motion was the worst part...but I think everybody has to go through that).
After the first half of the power point, Denise took us through the Poly resort and showed us one of the standard rooms. Then she introduced us to Auntie Kau'ula (I don't remember how to spell her name :( ) and she taught us how to hula. A bell hop whipped out a ukelele and we started to perform for guests. People were taking pictures of us and some even danced with us. It was cute.
I was disappointed we didn't get our costume though. I will get it first thing tomorrow though during Tier 1. I'm excited, but then again I'm not. We don't have the worst costumes ever, but it's a dress. And we have to wear pantyhose. That will be uncomfortable. I also want to invest in comfortable black flats. The only shoes I could find are a half size too big. Maybe I will just stuff some socks in my toe area. Something will be done.
I'm excited to actually start working. I don't know if I'm more excited than nervous though. I really hope I have nice trainers, because I heard some of the trainers in Magic Kingdom were scary. We will find out tomorrow!

Traditions!
So basically, today was Traditions! And it was really boring and I didn't learn anything. I feel awful, but it's true. Like, it'd probably be more helpful if I worked in the Magic Kingdom or a park, but they didn't talk about how any of the resort things work. Do we have utilidoors too? Do we have lockers? I have to take two busses to get to the poly? HOW DO THE BUSSES WORK. All I can say is thank god I have my car. Today after traditions we used the bus to get to the magic kingdom. It was fine going there because we just took the bus to the TTC. Then afterwords, we had no idea how to find the bus back. Luckily we found some other girls from the program who knew. So it worked out.
So, I'm all over the place because I feel awkward sitting in my room just typing and not talking. It's weird. I haven't had the apartment to myself yet to make a vlog. It's going to be forever until an update. I'm glad I have a couple days off. It looks like I'll be getting Tuesdays and Thursdays off because of my classes. So, if that's steady, I think I will like that routine.
My schedule is kind of all over the place. This week I work mornings...like Friday I work 8:30 to 14:00 which is my shortest shift. Then next week I start working 15:30-00:00 (3:30 to midnight....yuck!) But if midnight is the latest I will be working, I'm not going to complain. This means that the 24 hours on Feb. 29 doesn't apply to me :) Depending on my schedule, I want to hit that up!
Oh, while this blog is jumping everywhere, I'm going to post what all my roomies got! They still don't know their exact location, they should find out tomorrow at training I guess.
Caitie works Outdoor Foods in EPCOT, Jakki works merch on Main Street USA, Jen works attractions in tomorrowland, and of course I am merch at the Polynesian Resort. So, we have some variety. Jen works a lot of hours... I guess that's just a magic kingdom thing.
So, traditions....it is so long. I was in the morning group which started at 8, the bus leaving at 6:45, resulting in me waking up at 5:25. I got on the bus, and it left at 6:30, so we hung in Disney University lobby for a few minutes. Then we were divided into groups depending on your numbers on your portal book. Luckily, I was in the same room as Kim, who is also working Poly with me. You watch a really really long video about human resources, narrated by a computer animated/voiced dude named Chris. It drags on forever and ever. Our leaders Luis and Lori-Ann were amazing. They were really funny and efficient, and made Traditions slightly less painful. The tour through the utilidoors was short, but it was really cool to think about how you are right below the castle.
After traditions, me and the roommies just sat on facebook for about 3 hours. Then we decided to hit up the magic kingdom, and we walked in on the flag ceremony. THEN we saw that there was a 5 minute wait for pictures with Mickey. How could we refuse a picture with the boss?! Then there was basically no lines for anything. The longest line was 25 minutes for Peter Pan. I ended the night with my very first dole whip (which was AMAZING) and wishes! It was a really good day that I really hope we have more of. We're hoping to hit up EPCOT tomorrow.
Anyway, I wanted to vent about the bus systems and how nobody explained to us how it works in any other park but magic kingdom, but I'm pooped. Thank god I have off tomorrow. I have to buy new shoes for my costume. Oh wells. Hopefully I'll have time to edit my vlog.

Check in day and moore.
So that's right folks, I am all checked in and living in my lovely 2 bedroom apartment in Patterson Court!
And my role is....
*drum roll*
Walt Disney World's Polynesian Resort
I am SO relieved. Like, it's in the Magic Kingdom area, without actually being in the Magic Kingdom. I'm also relieved because I heard a couple other merch people got the poly, so I won't be the only CPer there. I am beyond happy with my location. I mean, who would complain about being put here?
So you probably want to know how the check in process was? It was LONG. I was so beat.
I woke up at 4:45am so I could leave All Star Movies to get to Vista Way. We got there a little before 6am, and I was like the second person in line. My roommates met up with me in the parking lot so we all went up together. Then we waited until 7, when a bunch of representatives in blue shirts came with iPads and checked us all in online. Then at around 8, we were moved into an area where we filled out like 3 papers agreeing to things. Then we went in a building where we got our housing assignments.
Originally we were going for Chatham, but we had an issue due to a medical accommodation. They gave us the option of splitting up our group of 4 in Chatham or staying together in Patterson. We chose to stay together in Patterson. So far, I really really like Patterson. It's only $1 more than Chatham and doesn't have a bus stop. But no big deal, I have my car! Woop. Our apartment is really nice, and generally came pretty clean, except for the dishes. And we had no shelves in our pantry. But we have plenty of space, and our complex is right near the clubhouse.
So, the homesickness hasn't hit me yet. It will probably hit when I have time to settle down and de-stress. Right now, I am worried about traditions, and hoping that my business attire falls under the guidelines. We will see.
